Hello you! Let’s talk about organic cosmetics and skincare today.
Although it is true that labels such as “natural” or “organic” are loosely used on most cosmetics and skincare today, there are certain markers that we can look out for to determine if a product is largely natural.
Check the ingredients list of your products for these markers:
These will appear as methyl-paraben, as well as ethyl-, propyl-, butyl-paraben. Although they fall under the family of parabens, these 4 are different chemicals. Don’t worry though, you can use the word ‘paraben’ to identify them!
- Artificial fragrances
These may cause skin discolouration.
- Synthetic colouring
Besides making our cosmetics and skincare products look nice, these substances actually do little else to help our skin.
- Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
Though SLS is not a carcinogen (at least as far as we know for now), it is a known irritant that is bad for our skin!
- Formaldehyde, Diethanolamide(DEA)/Triethanolamide(TEA)
People with sensitive skin, look out for these! These substances are known to be irritants, especially for people with sensitive skin.
We recommend that you check things out with your dermatologist when you’re unsure! Still, it will be wise to continue checking the ingredients list of our products as well; we welcome you to!
